I took this picture for the O-ring Nation thread on the Tank to compare and share the different versions of O-ring Jinx. I noticed for the first time while uploading, the uncanny similarity that TF Jinx has to MOTU Battle Cat in their color. I wonder if this was a nod to MOTU when her colors were chosen. What are your thoughts? Does anyone have any insight on this? Please discuss. Thanks!

At the time it was slated to come out, Derryl DePriest stated Jinx's colors were based on a scheme he made when he got the original toys back in the 80s.

When the TF jinx came out? Are you saying that Jinx was originally supposed to be green and orange? Did DePriest have anything to do with He-man? Thanks for the info.

DePriest wasn't an employee when Jinx originally came out. But he was in charge of the brand when the TF Jinx came out. As I recall, he had based the color on Battle Cat. So I think it is intentional.

What is interesting is that the filecard for TF Jinx shows a different color. It has Tiger stripes and looks kind of red. But I think it may actually be orange with the black tiger stripes. Since green was said to be a color he pushed for, I wouldn't be surprised if orange with black stripes is the color it was going to be previously.

Just realized that TF Bazooka and TF Dusty both share the same coloring and pattern as well. Those came out well before TF Jinx.

That correlation never crossed my mind. Guess I just hated that figure enough to not give it any thought. I do remember talking to a Habro rep about the colors, might have even been Derryl not that I thin about it. He didn't mention anything about a specific inspiration, he just wondered why I didn't like it.
