KINGOFPAIN’S ANNUAL WHAT SUCKED ABOUT JOCON 2011

Yes, with very good, there is a bad, however, the wasn’t a lot of bad this year

1) THE GOLDEN TICKET
While this wasn’t a bad idea in theory, it was HORRIBLE in execution. Before people crap all over the Golden ticket, several other cons have a bonus like this (Most sci-fi cons do), and thy work smoothly. The idea of a special reception for GT holders and the first rows were great.
But
The exclusive limits...

Obviously this attracted the greedy. For every person who used the Golden ticket opportunity to buy their friends a set, there was another who used it to pad their eBay dollars. (And one person in particular was ignorant enough to rub it in peoples faces at the con. Thanks a lot, jerk) As a result, MOST of the exclusives were sold out by Friday. and there was a LOT of disappointed attendees. Not only did it screw some of the Registered attendees, but there wasn't much left when the walk ins got there on Saturday.

I suggest that next year, the golden ticket bonus take the form of one Bonus exclusive FIGURE rather than set limits. That way, it will have a bigger incentive to get the Golden ticket, but at the same time, not shafting the other attendees who choose not to get one.

...and as for people sitting at home... next year break your necks to come to con!

2) Hotel Cleaning Staff

A new Stupid idea hotel’s have is this automatic check out system... so that now… you are checked out... before you even physically leave the room.
As a result, the cleaners com in like the Gestapo... at like 8 am! In my room we had to physically yell at the staff to not come in, but they came in anyway!!!

Others didn’t fair so good.

Another con attendee left the room for 5 MINUTES, and the cleaners came in and completely DESTROYED ALL OF THE CON GAINS AND EXCLUSIVES!!
Really? What idiot throws boxed toys and signed posters in the trash? I worked Security at the Four Seasons for 2 years and even I know that all items found in a room after checkout are put in Lost & found. EVERY HOTEL DOES THIS!!!! Its basic policy.
These People shouldn’t be just fired; they should be banned from ever working in the hospitality industry in that state.

3) THE CON DINNER FOOD

First off where was the meat!!!????
For a 4 star hotel, the food was kind of lousy… Better than last year, but a definite downgrade from cons like New Orleans and Texas.
Also, for some reason, the con dinner is constantly being pushed to be a formal event…with guys who wear costumes and t-shirts?
ITS NOT GONNA WORK, SO PLEASE STOP.
A lot of us wear suits and uniforms to work, why would we want to do so on out vacation? Were comfortable in our t-shirt clothes, let us wear what we want. Yes I know the dress code isn’t enforces... but in my opinion there really shouldn’t be a dress code at all. For a “fanboy” convention…it’s just really not in the cards.

4) NO MARAUDER JOHN

the biggest questions we got was " where's the gun runner?"
for unknown reasons, Marauder john couldnt make it this year, and his absence was felt throughout the joe community. even the Hasbro rep asked about him!
However, in a total act of coolness, he STILL sent some freebies to be passed out tat the Joe Declassified booth, and donated door prizes for fans.

Even when he isnt here, Marauder John is still the man!

COME BACK TO JOECON, JOHN!!!!!

Honestly? That’s about it. The only other bad point that I could think of is that the fun ended too soon!! It was a GREAT con this year!! Not a lot of bad at all...

Everything was 3X for golden ticket holders except for the Gatilho Relampago 2-pack which was 6X for every GT. They got that one right, cause even at 6X they were the last to sell out.

You forgot "douchebags who call the GIJCC Staff and make up stories about volunteers they don't like." That's always a negative.

Would be nice to have found out who did that btw. It's getting a little ridiculous the lengths some people on other sites are going to to be complete asshats to collectors they don't like.

I had a big problem with the golden ticket holders having reserved seat at the panels. I only went to 3 and the first 3 rows for each were empty. I think it looks bad to the panelists and those of us who paid good money to be there and want to be in the first row of that panel is wrong. I can live without the con exclusives. Personally, I only got the con so I can hang out with friends that I only get to see at the con.

I did not like the hotel at all. The hotel room was real small. It was $717 for 3 nights and the average Motel 8 room at $45 a night was larger. The inroom internet was horrible slow. Luckily I have a iphone. That was how I did all my internet stuff while I was there. I did not eat for less than $20 a meal while I was there and I did not eat anything extravegant. Also, the taxi cab ride to the hotel from the airport was $63 before tip. Lastly, the hotel was so large. The con was so far away from the rooms, that I was looking for one of those indoor golf cart things to give me a ride. I was cramping up. I really need to stretch before such a long hike. LOL.

Thats what sucked to me.
Chris

i found that funny as well. There were 57 total golden ticket packages, and with all three rows, they held back 120 seats in those three rows. They could have made it so one half of the aisle had the first three rows reserved so that those that didn't have a golden ticket could still get a front row seat on the other half of the seats. But I did really like walking in a minute before the panel started and having a front row center seat.

They weren't policing it anyway. I sat in the second row on one of the panels and no one cared. But still, I think you're right Roshan, they easily could have just made it the first three rows of the section right in front of the guest tables.

As a dealer, we decided to rent a house in Kissimmee. Sure it took 20 minutes to get to the hotel. However, it was $500 for an entire week with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a pool. More than paid for itself. Plus, free wi-fi.

This was my third JoeCon. The first two, I stayed at the con hotel. Both times I thought the hotels were overpriced. Large hotels like that will nickle and dime guests on everything. I just don't see this as beneficial for attendees that want to spend money at the con but get raped by the hotel. I really believe Brian and/or Hasbro should be more considerate of the attendees when choosing the hotel.

Here's an idea, pick a place that is separate from the hotel. I'm sure the logistics are not easy but the less money the hotel takes from the attendees, the more that may go to the club.
