RZA appears here on both the Larry Sanders Show and in a Jim Jarmusch film. Both which are critically acclaimed in their respective mediums. I'm not expecting sublime acting from RZA, of course, but going up against Bill Murray and Jeffery Tambor and coming out on the other side unchopped... being tapped by someone like Jarmusch alone means he's at least respected... I really think we'll be okay with RZA. Now on the other hand... if the film is as sub par as its predecessor, I'll actually feel bad for RZA. Granted John Chu is no Garry Shandling or Jim Jarmusch... I think RZA will probably turn out to be one of the highlights of the sequel if he's utilized properly.

I'm confident that the movie will either be so good people will praise the director for his radical casting choices or be so bad he will be ridiculed for including people as unseasoned as himself for an action movie. Either way hardcore fans will claim it pisses on the mythos.

Doesn't bother me.

The Blind Master isn't "really" a GI Joe...he's at best a superfluous supporting character...So it doesn't really matter who's cast to play him.
The guys from Wu Tang Klan are all big fans of Old School Kunk Fu movies...so at the very least RZA will have a little bit of background.


I see this more as the Director taking an opportunity to put people he wants to work with in the cast. Not so much the Director Looking at characters to put in the film, seeing a Black guy with the Code Name "Stalker", Trying to be a bit too PC he decides to change the name, goes to YoJoe.com and looks for another character who's dressed in all Green with Cammo, finds Ripcord, and then casts a Wayens Brother to fill the role.

I am fine with the casting choice. I have a problem with the fact that in the entire joe mythos, the writers decided blindmaster was a critical character for the story. I am almost tempted to unwrap my MISB Dvd of the movie that my mommy bought me for Christmas so I can rewatch that backstory scene about Snakes eyes and Stormshadow and how they met. I doubt there was anything in that scene that would lead you to believe the ninja clan had a blind black american man teaching in Japan. Nevermind, I am not curious enough to rewatch that movie yet.

Way I remember it, SE was a street urchin in the movie stealing food from one of their feasts and the Hard Master saw something in SE when he fought Storm Shadow. Maybe he sees something in a blind man and brings him into the clan?

Honestly I wouldn't be too concerned with how people get into the Arishikage clan, never made sense to me that in the comics this secret ninja family clan would also let in Firefly & Zartan

I have no problem with RZA playing the Blind Master, let's just hope he (and the other actors) take it seriously enough to try to do a good job

I'm a giant wu tang fan so I'm stoked that RZA is going to be in GI Joe 2. I hope we get a figure, I might actually buy that.
