So Data-Viper got the Ax? Was it just that figure or did the whole wave get canned?

TNI posted an article that the Data Viper got canceled...

http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=17307

Forums are speculating on the semantics of the post saying that just because it says it was canceled from the 30th anniversary line that it doesn't mean that it has been totally axed and that we may see it in the future. So far, I am in doubt. Hasbro has been refusing to release many of the figures I am excited about, instead they taunt me with pictures of things I will never be able to get. I will really miss this.

I really wish that Zombie Viper would have gotten cut instead. I like ZV, but not nearly as much. Data-Viper was one of the best figures in the case at Joecon imo. I really want one.

I have been thinking about this and I really think that he got chopped because he involved so many pieces and probably just would have cost a lot more to make than the others. It would be nice if Hasbro tried a set of deluxe figures as they did with XO:Wolverine, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America figures. I'd like to pay a few extra dollars to get a figure that is jammed with a ton of accessories as long as those accessories are not another spring launcher.

Or maybe some time in the future they can pack DV with a small vehicle *Cobra Claw...Cobra Jetpack...a Flight Pod, etc) and be released as an Alpha Vehicle.

I actually do not think any of them should have gotten cut, the pictures we got to see of he possible new lineup showed a nice, balanced mix of old, new and fan fave figures. A little something for everyone I thought, which sounds like Hasbro's best bet for Joe right now; hedge your bets by covering all the bases instead of pandering to just one fan set. I know I will not get every figure that comes out but there are (were) figures that I would have gotten and with the deletion of the Data Viper that's less money Hasbro gets from me and others who would have wanted this figure. I know I would have bought a ton of the Cobra Commander if it came with the HISS Drone or Nanodrone but as it is not only did Hasbro release a figure that was so-so in demand that could have seen some heavy sales for the people who wanted just the drone but the drones never got a public release, pushing sales for the mail in figure and that is money Hasbro does not get.
But, I do love this idea of deluxe figures you mentioned, like back in the days of yore with stuff like Zartan a figure that has a little more then a carded fig and not enough to make it a vehicle. Figures like that could be ordered by the case instead of mixed in with the standard line up, it might help with less peg warming in case it goes the way of the Jungle Viper and price-wise it wouldn't be like getting stuck with cases of Moles or Night Ravens. Excellent idea! Now... How to make it happen...

I really wished Jason X would have gotten a release.

This saddens me. I was really looking forward to his release. While I can understand to some degree why they pulled it, I would still take this one over the Zombie figure. I know both require a lot of new tooling but this one happens to fit in my Joe Universe a little better.

I have not given up all hope on this guy, with the new movie getting closer could it be possible that Hasbro is sitting on this guy until the figure release for Retaliation? Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I can't believe that Hasbro would go this far and totally abandon it. I began to wonder if they thought the sales for the figure would be greater if it was lumped in with the movie figs even though it won't be in the movie, kinda like the extra character figs we got with the ROC line? Anyone have new insight or thoughts on this guy?
