EDIT: After a back-and-forth with another (and more knowledgable) collector... it seems that this might in fact be from the early 2000's. The info I got initially was the only info to be gotten but speculation is good and discussion is even better. So 90's? 2000's? Dunno. But here it is.

I know this isn't 3 3/4 but my other options for this forum were Sigma 6 and 12" which obviously this isn't.

Here's something you don't see every day and something I'm pretty sure most people haven't seen before. The other remaining samples in collector hands actually made an appearance at the Joe Declassified booth in 2010 but if you didn't know what you were looking at or if you didn't attend... chances are you've not seen this line. I got this sample in a trade. I simply cannot resist unproduced and canceled Joe lines. The lines that exist like parallel universes of what could have been... where GI Joe could have gone... where it would be now. The only thing I know about this line is that it was to be a 6 inch line in the late 90's supposedly concocted to kinda go head to head with the Spawn-type/size lines. I believe the Spawn line specifically. There are a couple more samples out there in other collections...but that's a story for another day. For now here is Cobra Commander. A trenchcoat incarnation. Standing 6 inches tall. GI JOE could probably benefit from a 6 inch line if done well. Not to replace the 3 3/4-to-4 inch world but just in general a 6 inch line would be pretty damn cool. Keep in mind this is a preproduction sample of a dead line so what you see might not exactly be what you would have gotten had it gone forward.

Go check out the photos on Generalsjoes.com for the comparison pic with Dial-Tone... because as usual, Declassified has cut my pictures off on the right.

Now that's really a very fascinating glimpse into what-might-have-been!

It sort of reminds me of a Marvel Legend.

Amazing find! I've been re-reading the Age of Apocalypse stories in trade paperback collections this week so I'm all mentally into alternate realities and such right now.

"What If Hasbro Had Produced GIJOE Versus COBRA Characters In 6" Scale In The 1990's?"

Stimulating!

Other than the bottom of the mask, I friggin love this figure! Just something about it says cool. I wonder what would have happened had this been the direction they went with Joe instead of Extreme. Would I have been brought back into joe earlier than 2003? I don't know, but I can honestly say with me picking up 90's Batman figures again, I would definitely have also picked up this figure and others from the line (If they all looked as impressive)

Man, I've been around this line since the get-go, and I've never heard PEEP about this 6" stuff... Holy crap. It's a good day when you learn something new about the hobby you love! Thanks for sharing, man!

I would have bought this line had it come out in the late 90's. I passed on all the Extreme stuff.

Really cool pics.

that's cool to see what Cobra Commander would have looked like as opposed to some filler characters. his eyes seem too far apart to me. or maybe it's something else, but his head just doesn't sit quite right with me.

do we know who all was prototyped for this line? i'd assume Snake Eyes, but i could easily be wrong.

i don't think i would have bought these figures as i didn't touch Extreme, but judging from this prototype alone, i'd say they would have been better in that they have more points of articulation. but none very good for posing.

thanks for sharing.
