Continuing on through the vaults... pushing past the unreleased carded "Wave 14" at the tail end of the 25th Anniversary... we move on to the tail end of Rise of Cobra with two CARDED samples: Desert Battle Zartan (w/ actor likeness head) and Arctic Threat Elite Ice-Viper. Both of these figures have of course surfaced on the Grey Market loose, but these are amongst the first samples to ever surface CARDED.
These are of course only two of many canceled Rise of Cobra figures from the now infamous and now ghostly unreleased transition waves that were snuffed out and thus apparently expedited The Pursuit of Cobra line (which, true to form, was also put on hiatus from a projected Jan 2010 release date all the way to August of the same year). Part of the idea was to avoid using actor likenesses, as it was getting too expensive.
You'll notice that their bubbles are adorned with a "Pursuit of Cobra" offer sticker. This was, of course, related to the canceled (and then later resurrected by the GJCC) Mail-Away Cobra Commander w/ HISS drone. Whether or not there is anything else to the "Pursuit of Cobra" sticker (other than the listed poster and offer) is either locked up in the minds at Hasbro or hiding inside these carded samples, which of course, are NOT going to be opened. I believe this is the first time the Elite Ice-Viper file card has been seen and/or posted anywhere on the internet. It is, unsurprisingly, very similar in theme to the Rise of Cobra Ice-Viper file card.
