I posted this on the other site and figured that it is a great way to get to know my fellow members;

I used to love to take my Joes out when I was a kid in the mid '80s. I used to lose the weapons all of the time so I would made guns and swords out of twigs from the trees. I used to dig in the dirt and set up an imaginary battle. I had most of the Joe stuff but hardly any Cobra stuff so I would have the Joes fight an imaginary enemy. I would do little dioramas with Flint and Rock 'N Roll on recon for example entrenched at the base of a tree that I dug up into. Sand at the park was cool too as it was desert terrain for Dusty. I had also loved going to my friends house whom had a swimming pool and just about every toy made in the '80s. We would have a blast trying to sink the Killer W.h.a.l.e. and also use Torpedo and Wet-Suit on deep dives to explore for Cobra. Man those were great times.

Did you guys do this stuff or am I in my own little world with the rest of the kids on my block? If so, lets hear it.

We had a pool growing up so I was always big on the boats. In the summers I would have huge water battles with the Whale and Hydrofoil. The Whale never seemed to stay afloat that long. It would take on water and as it sank the pieces would start to float away and scatter all over the pool. That was kind of frustrating. The Sharc was also a personal favorite being that it was the only Joe submarine for a long time. I would take it to the bottom of the deep end in search of treasure or cobra divers on some nefarious sabotage mission.

I had a huge sandbox in the back where I was most of the time, although every cat in the neighborhood thought it was a litter box. My mom had to clean it out a few times then condemned it. I still played in the clean corner for awile. Other than that I loved our fireplace with a screen so everyone could repel down.

My Joes NEVER went outside (WHAT IS THE FUN IN THAT GARY!?)...yeah, yeah, I know. But it also explains why my W1 '82 stuff is in good condition. I played with the Joes in the basement. Joe HQ on one side, Cobra on the other, battles in the middle.

My stuff never went outside either.

The thought of one of my toys getting ruined in the snow/water/mud/dirt was horrifying.

Growing up in Maine, I played the heck out of the Joe vs Cobra in the snow banks. We'd spend all day digging tunnels and then sending fishing price boats through the slopes filled with Joes. What is funny about that is I had no problem playing with them in the snow but refused to bring them in the tub or pools because I didn't want the screws to rust.

We also use to have neighborhood wide GI Joe vs Star Wars battles. Every kid would bring all of their stuff. It was crazy and cool and I lost a ton of stuff. Luckily when my dad got stationed in Japan I was able to pick up Japanese versions of most of the early figures I lost.

Every summer the Joe and Cobra boats went back to Illinois with my Brother and me. Every swimming pool we hit the boats would come out.
