Let me stand up for Zombie Viper in one of two ways:

In various other versions of GI Joe, we know Cobra often experiments with chemical or biological weapons, even excluding something more juvenile like "Valor Vs. Venom." The Marvel run, Reloaded, even on the old cartoon. Imagine Mindbender/Venom/Cesspool coming up with a virus to drop into cities which begins to slow down the higher cognitive functions, tapping into just limbic/amygdala type reactions. It also speeds up the metabolism meaning that lower brain wants to eat... anything. The trick is, you can't eat fast enough and the body decays. Before you go though, you don't feel pain, no emotion other than fight or flight, and are starving. For all intents and purposes... Zombie.

Or, Mindbender is looking for a cheaper way to make BATS. Never made much sense to me to spend millions on the tech to build a single BAT, when you can just hire muscle. Imagine though, you take a control board, and convert it to have the ability to send electrical impulses not into gears and servos, but rather into the cheapest materials available; corpses. You send Vipers into combat, they get killed, some MediViper slaps a circuit board onto the base of their neck where spine meets brain. After a battle, police up whatever boards you can find, do some soldering and use them again!

That's why I'm looking forward to Zombie Viper!

I'm going to tolerate the Z-Viper as an means to an end. If buying the thing gets me other, more desireable stuff, then that is what I'll do. But then again, I'm a one of everything kinda guy. Will I army build the Z-Viper...my magic 8 ball says it remains to be seen.

I like it...different, but hey at least it's a Cobra and I can easily see it fitting into the Joe-Verse.

Oh, I utterly agree!

They hit the ball out of the park with that one. COBRA has needed something like it for some time now.

Didn't notice the card backs on the new figures. Will the file cards persist in that square style?

If it were a true "Zombie" undead, I would agree, it's kind of ridiculous. But with the rampant genetic engineering that Mindbender and COBRA partake in, I could see some weird genetic side effects turning subjects into "zombie-like" creatures. I think it's cool in that regard, and the detail is really impressive. I'll probably end up with a few for storytelling purposes, though they certainly won't be traditional "zombies".

Basically a Data-Viper is a contingency variable of sorts... say a Cobra base is destroyed... the Data-Viper transmits all the info and files etc of that Cobra base to another Data-Viper at another location. I tried to convince Warden he should be writing the file cards or at least doing a dossier for characters because he really has thought out the backstory for all of these new characters to an amazing extent.

The figure itself is astonishing. It's like a mech-suit and a Jungle-Viper had a kid.

I envision the zombies going haywire and revolting and usurping Cobra Island from
the inside and the Data-Vipers as a last defense.

I was skeptical of the Data-Vipers, but this "bio" might have won me over. Excellent.
