Is there a significance to multiples of 8?

As far as the "8" troops go, I based it partially on how we operate at the team. Our platoon is usually 16 guys - 2 squads of 8 (or 4 fireteams of 4, 8 swim pairs of 2).
When I first started troop building in 2001-02, it was with the JvC Viper/Mirage 2-packs. I concluded quickly that I was going to need to pick an arbitrary number for the future, which has prevented me from going overboard and doing what so many other guys who troop build have done (31 of 1 troop, 19 of another, 5 of another) and just buying everything I see. I still army-build en masse, but it's always in a multiple of 8, and depending on the troop's utility - maybe 24,32, or even 40 for blue-shirts or vipers - 8 or maybe 16 for something like a hazard-viper or more specific specialty. I don't know...it all makes sense in my head.
My IG's, though, are in 10's, just to make Destro's forces different.
